Question:
Is the first man on the moon really a fake? , the flag fluttering in space?
2008-01-16 05:01:48 UTC
i was taking science today and my teacher asked a few question that got me thinking the whole day .

the pictures of neil armstrong on the moon with the flag fluttering in space? . the moon has no air , its a vacuum so how could it flutter .

and other photo which shows a person holding a flag ( with it fluttering ) and another person obviously in the backround and another person seen maning the space ship . so who took that picture ? ( only 3 were on the moon ) .

A picture of the flag fluttering .

Sometimes, I believe that "Armstrong Moon story" was a hollywood movie.

The flag is NOT fluttering. Be very careful about deducing movement from a still image. In a vacuum the flag would simple hang limply down the pole. Aware of this, the mission planners modified the flag by sewing a metal rod across the top of the flag to hold it out. The flag is crumpled because it has been crammed into a small container for several days before being set up, so it retained its creases just like your clothes do if you don't fold it carefully when you pack it to go on holiday. If you examine the video and film footage of the flag you can see them setting it up and the pole across the top is very obvious, as is the fact that the flag does not actually move at all when no-one is touching it.

The other picture with multiple astronauts in it is fake. Only two astronauts landed on the Moon, and one of those had to take the picture. Frustrated by this limitation, several people have since used techniques like photoshop to generate fake images with both astronauts in the frame. This is not evidence that the Moon landings were faked, because nowhere does anyone from NASA actually claim these are genuine images from the flights.

The Moon landings really happened. They were the end result of a long, complicated series of flights that started in 1961 with the first American in space and progressed through the sixties and into the seventies. The amount of suporting evidence is overwhelming.

It´s a still picture! You can´t see motion in still pictures, can you? You need a film sequence. Or atleast two stills to compare. Let´s try that shall we?

Take a look at these two pictures Armstrong took of Buzz Aldrin by the flag. They were taken a few seconds apart. If you zoom in you can clearly see how the flag was constructed as it is not an ordinary flag (you also see stars...). If you flip back and forth between the two pictures you see this:

Buzz is moving. The flag isn´t. There is nothing fake about the flag. Other than the fact that it is a fake flag designed to look as if it is fluttering... Get the picture?

You need to look at VIDEO of the flag because a STILL picture cannot show motion. It can only give an APPEARANCE of motion frozen in time. The video in the source will show you it is NOT fluttering. It is just held out sideways like that by a bar along the top edge. NASA built a special flag pole with a bar on top sticking out sideways to hold the flag out like that because they knew that it would not flutter in the vacuum on the Moon but they wanted it to look good in pictures.

Oh, and that video was taken by a camera mounted on the lunar rover and remote controlled from Earth.

Yes we were there. They left special mirrors on the moon so we could track it with lasers. Much more accurate. Look again at the flag it has a rib supporting it to look like it was fluttering. Think of the security to get 100,000 people not to talk about it being faked. If they could do that.

The flag isn't fluttering, it's just creased.

If you view video footage of the flag being erected, you can see this.

The flag is forceably held outwards by a telescopic pole at the top of the flag - which you can just about see in your picture.

There is a video on youtube, here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=n1UEv2PIzl4

You can clearly see the flag does not flutter. Sometimes it will continue to move after the astronauts have moved it. This is because there is no air to cause friction.

Moron: look at the videos. The flag is not fluttering. It is not even moving. If it were fluttering, why is the top of the flag straight?

Link us to the picture showing the extra astronauts.

The reason the flag appears to flutter is because the astronauts stretched it out with

some wire. If the video was indeed faked,

don't you think NASA would have been smart enough to make the flag NOT appearing to flutter BEFORE releasing the videos to the public. NASA is not dumb.:)

Of course the other questions to ask about the picture would be:

Why does the flag have no shadow and why it the flag lit from the front, where the LEM and the equipment is lit from the rear?

And how the suits protected them against the !00 degC plus day temperatures and the -150 DegC night temperatures

All of theses things can be quite easily debinked if you know a little bit about the physics behind them...

Look at this site - It's quite interesting really...

A flag poll is made of aluminum, a bendable metal. When planting the flag, the pole would have been bent, causing it to spring back and forth at a slow vibration. This would give the appearance of the flag fluttering.

Here's some interesting websites that I found. No, you're not crazy to think that. There are a lot of questions about that landing & why we haven't been back. I've never quite understood why they didn't make the moon a docking station rather than some floating space station- doesn't make sense. I think you'll find these websites interesting. And don't be afraid to ask questions, it's how you learn & form your own opinions.

I was watching as the landing was taking place.... it's real, kiddo!.... all the questions you have been thinking about are explained if you stop 'expecting' it to be a hoax, fake, or whatever.... it's real.... it happened.... and you should be proud of the men and women who made it happen 'back in the dark ages' instead of trying to ridicule a historic event.....

it's too early to 'drink'.... ................sigh............

You never know. A few years ago Fox aired a show called Moon landing conspiracy theories, that was quite convincing. They had reports of the radiation levels around the moon at the time and how it would have been impossible for the astronauts to survive. And they also brought up why we have never been back, so it's something to consider.

it was a real event in history the flag is not made of cloth it is a metal and designed to look that way...as if blowing in a breeze

the truth is in the golf ball and club the astronaut snuck on board and let loose in space !

ali g interviewed buzz aldrin (ali g in da usaiii episode 101) and asked him; "what do you say to all those conspiracy theorists who ... say does the moon really exist?"

buzz aldrin said "... the moon does exist and we went there."

so there you have it. case closed.

The moon is not, I repeat not a vacuum as you suggested. Even the motion of the astronauts moving around would have created enough energy to move the flag around.

I believe its fake, we had to beat the russians. So we made it up. Why we havnt been back makes me think.

It is true. No doubt about it.
2008-01-16 05:08:52 UTC
no its real, but there are lots of bogus conspiracy theories.
2008-01-16 05:10:34 UTC
actually it was faked
