I think M-theory stands for Mother theory and it's like a union of different string theories that differ a little among them ( I heard there are 5 theories of strings..each one is sort of complicated but there is some knowledge of them and they actually show different aspects of the same theory; the M-theory is like an attempt to join them somehow) ..anyway, string theory predicts 11 dimentions wich is a lot! ( I guess now is down to 6 ..has anyone heard of it?) so it's still a theory like Quantum gravity and some others trying to join QM with relativity ..I just hope they succeed.

String theory is the smallest part of matter you can possibly get to is an infinitely thin string. These strings makes up quarks, which make up protons and neutrons, which make up an atom. The size of a string is Planck length(extremely tiny), and we do not have the technology to see that small yet. The way the strings vibrate determines what type of matter it is(electrons, protons, etc.) This has not been proven but there is evidence for it

String Theory also explains that all reletive dimensions travel the duration line at the same relative speed, so that no matter where you are in the multiverse it is always the same "now".
