Because there was a guy named john titor and he claimed to have been to the future,and told us how to build a time machine and the government has hidden it.If john titor is from the year 2036 then will the world end in 2012? Then the mayas were wrong. And what exactly is a galactic alignment?

The Aztecs conquered the Mayans and absorbed the Mayan culture. There are many people with Mayan ancestry alive today, so the Mayans have not died technically. The Catholic Church did its best to wipe out their culture, but some of it still remains today.



All that is going to happen on Dec. 21, 2012 is that the sun will align with the center of Milky Way galaxy on the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere. The dying of plants, the dying of the year, and, in the Mayan long count calendar, the end of the 13th cycle of 13,000 year cycles has a lot of symbolism attached. The Mayan calendar does not end. All that will happen is that the fourth Mayan "world" will die and the fifth Mayan world will be born with the beginning of new cycle of cycles. The Greco-Roman civilization equivalent is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius, which happened 41 years ago (??). 13,000 years from 2012, the sun will align with the center of the Milky Way galaxy on the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere, as long as the Earth's orbital parameters remain approximately the same. The only other thing that is predicted to happen in 2012 is that solar activity for solar activity cycle 24 will be at a maximum.

OK. I'll try to explain a little more. Remember, this is important because it happens at a WINTER SOLSTICE in the northern hemisphere. The Sun will align within 1 degree of the center of the Milky Way Galaxy on a winter solstice as predicted by the Mayans. There is a radio/X-ray star call Sagittarius A*, usually abbreviated Sag A*, at -6 degrees declination on the celestial sphere. Sag A* is not AT the center of the Milky Way galaxy. There is a 30 million solar mass black hole, a dimensional singularity AT the center of the Milky Way galaxy. Anything else AT the center goes down the black hole, which is NOT made of the densest material known. If you want to look toward the center of the Milky Way galaxy, go outside in mid August about half an hour after sunset. Look to the south. The Constellation Sagittarius has a famous asterism known as "The Teapot". Wait until it almost completely dark and you might be able to see the Milky Way running from Sagittarius through the Summer Triangle of the bright stars Altair in Aquila, Vega in Lyra, (which is straight overhead at sunset in mid-August), and Deneb in Cygnus, which is also known as the Northern Cross.

For the person trying to claim that the sun cannot appear to come close to the center of the Milky Way galaxy because the tilt of the ecliptic plane is 62 or 63 degrees from the equatorial plane of the Milky Way galaxy, you are very mistaken. The ecliptic is defined by the apparent path of the sun through the constellations of the zodiac, Since the constellations of the zodiac are all visible from the Earth, your claim is not valid, because you can actually right at the center of the Milky Way galaxy if you can find the entire asterism of The Teapot in Sagittarius in the northern hemisphere summer. Think about that. If the world ends in 2012 how could he come from 2036? The world would have ended 24 years before that.



Galactic alignment is the completely incorrect idea that the sun will line up with the galactic centre - it won't ever, since our solar system is angled to the centre and it never lines up.



People didn't think 2000 was the end of days - most people thought that it would be a problem for computers and computer systems (since many programs assumed the "19" for the year and midnight on 12/31/1999 would cause programming crashes in banks, governments, companies, etc.) It was called Y2K.



Religious "end of days" have been prophecized since Biblical times, but you will notice (if you read any scripture) that no dates are specified.

No. It is will not. The world has existed for four billion years. Is it reasonable to expect that it will come to an end in less than four years? And all because of a Mayan calendar? Use some common sense, rather than being scared.



The most interesting astronomical events in 2012 will be an annular eclipse of the Sun on 2012 May 20, a total eclipse of the Sun on 2012 Nov 13, and a transit of the planet Venus across the face of the Sun on 2012 Jun 06.



Scientists don't expect anything out of the ordinary to happen in the year 2012, or specifically on the date December 21, except for the solstice, which happens every year.



None of the "predicted" happenings for 2012 hold up under close scrutiny. "Planet X" and "Nibiru" simply don't exist. The Mayan calendar ends a cycle, but there were no predictions of the end of the world. The Sun doesn't line up with the galactic centre; it's 6 degrees off.
