Why does everyone assume this is a test or homework question? It could just be a question of personal interest.

Oh well, I trust you'll be scholastically honest and look for good sources on this information.

Main question: This is a little tough. You could argue that the outer planets are rocky as well, since they are believed to have massive rocky centers. This comes from the fact that during the time the solar system originated, there was more material in this outer region to smash together and form planets. Once the sun ignited, it blew away most of the primordial nebula from which the solar system originated. But if the outer planets had centers with more mass than the inner planets, it would make sense that they, having stronger gravitational pulls, would be able to hold onto more of the nebula gasses than the inner planets would.

Extras:

Pluto's orbit crosses over that of Neptune, but since they've decided Pluto isn't a planet, I guess that knowledge isn't valid anymore.

Johannes Kepler.

Planetary orbits have a slightly eccentric elliptical shape and they orbit in nearly the same plane.

Venus. The atmosphere is mostly CO2 and contains thick sulfur dioxide clouds.

Uranus.

Mercury.

I guess reading a text book or doing their own homework is just too much to ask of young people these days. So much easier to just ask on Yahoo and get someone else to do it for you (I just wish I could find some way to get away with that at work).

Why are planets near the Sun rocky and planets away from the sun mostly gas? Because the heat and solar wind of the newly-formed sun blew the volatiles out of the inner solar system.

The only planet that crosses over another planets orbital path is - none in our solar system. Pluto is the only object that crosses another planet's orbit but Pluto is no longer a planet.

Who discovered that planets have elliptical orbits? Johannes Kepler (this is Keplers' First Law of Motion).

What is the shape of planetary orbits? - didn't you read the question right before this one - it had the answer right there.

This planet is its color due to sulfur dioxide - boy, that is a really badly worded question. Venus is the only planet in our solar system with any significant amount of sulfur dioxide in its atmosphere.

This planet's rotation is nearly parallel to the plan of orbit - parallel to its plane of orbit means the planet would be tilted over by 90 degrees. The planet that is tilted over the closest to 90 degrees is Uranus (tilted by 98 degrees) - Uranus is basically rotating on its side.

This planet has no moons, no atmosphere, but its surface has many craters. Mercury (how can anyone over the age of 10 not know this one?)

The shape of a planetary orbit is an Elipse

The only planet that crosses over another planets orbital path is Neptune. It crossess over the orbital path of Pluto. (meaning that SOMETIMES Neptune is the furthest planet from the sun.)

Who discovered that planets have elliptical orbits? Johan Kepler

What is the shape of planetary orbits? Elipse

This planet is its color due to sulfur dioxide. Venus. (The atmosphere is yellow due to the amount of sulfer dioxide)

This planet's rotation is nearly parallel to the plan of orbit. Mercury

This planet has no moons, no atmosphere, but its surface has many craters. Mercury

Time for me to be a smart-***

The only planet that crosses over another planets orbital path is: None now since Pluto is no longer considered a planet.

This planet has no moons, no atmosphere, but its surface has many craters: None. It has been discovered that Mercury does in fact have a minuscule atmosphere.

My answer served no point other than to amuse myself :P
