First of all, NASA doesn't hire many scientists. They are mostly in the business of launching rockets, and so mainly employ aeronautical engineers. The science is done by scientists on the faculties of various universities and research institutions all over the world. To get involved with astronomy, you should study as much mathematics and physics as you can, but don't expect to be hired by NASA.

NASA hires lots of people, but almost of all of their jobs require you to be a US citizen. The few that don't require it (but give US citizens preference) require a PhD and strong research background in astronomy, physics, or whatever related field they are hiring at the moment. Check out their job site.

NASA is an engineering organization. So, you should obviously study engineering.
