Question:
Will the world end in 2012?
2008-12-30 23:18:27 UTC
I know many of you are going to think I am gullible or stupid, but honestly, do you people think the world will end in 2012? For example, I watched the movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still".

Out of how big the universe is, there has to be some kind of living life out there, that is more advanced than us, way more. They could probably tell if we are hostile or not, just by examining our behavior on Earth. Another thing, things like Earthquakes, tsunamis, cyclones, etc. are happening more frequently. The Mayans predicted that the world will end in 2012. People believe that this is fake, but what would make them pick that year, out of all the years that were possible to pick?

Also, war is becoming more frequent also. We have new weapons, atomic bombs for example, that are FAR more devastating than they were in WW2. People are already preparing for 2012, by buying items for survival. Think about it. All the things that are going on now, natural disasters, war, possible other living life in space, maybe an asteroid or a meteor.

If you guys think the world will end in 2012, explain your reasons why. If not, explain why also. I for one think it will happen, I am not sure how, but part of me thinks that it is possible.

This is the biggest pile of **** I've ever heard of. Honeslty, wake up people. It seems as if the biggest theory around the 2012 apocolypse is these "Mayans". Yes they were a very accurate bunch, but they never mentioned anything about a apocolyptic event occuring at the end of their calendar, and other sources suggest that the calendar continues past this point.

What will happen tommorow on New Years Eve? Are we all going to stock up on survival items and run for the hills because the calendar is ending? No. The world was supposed to end in 2000..did it? I'll let you figure that one out by yourself. I think it was this year or last that a group of Russians hid out in a man built cave thinking it was the end. What did they do four months later? They came out of their cave looking like idiots.

From a religious point of view, I think the Bible clearly states that humanity will never know when Armagedon will occur, only that it will.

Face it, we are living in a world filled with Hollywood influence. Of course everyone wants to be the Dr. Robert Neville from "I Am Legend" or Jim from "28 days Later", the sole survivors that wiped out humanity as we know it. Wouldn't it be fun? Driving around in a Mustang around a vacant New York City, doing whatever you want, not giving a damn? Sure, movies make it seem so "fun" and worthwile.

You'd think that they're would be some more awareness in terms of government involvment, some of the worlds best researchers trying to find out how to prepare the world for that dreadful day. And is there? Absolutely not. I don't think anyone was worried about the world ending back in the ninties or early 2000s. Why? Because it won't happen. In my opinion, we'll know when the world ends due to a natural catastrophy LONG before it happens.

Who knows, I may be wrong..if it ends, it ends. I know I'm going to live my life normally, and not worry about 2012 until I manage to pay off my mortgages.

* Earthquakes, tsunamis, cyclones, etc. are happening more frequently. * <--- I would really like to see your source on this data. More frequently than when? Does it take into account the scales of any of these? What's the basis for a timeframe? It seems to me, that, over the last 500 years, there has been no increase in any of these natural disasters, only an increase in reported and detected ones, which is what one would expect, given our ability to record and maintain records has gotten better, and that our detection methods have developed a higher sensitivity.

*The Mayans predicted that the world will end in 2012*

This statement is inaccurate. I have not been presented with a single shred of even circumstantial evidence that claims anyone of the ancient Mayan Civilization ever reported a prediction that the world would end, let alone at a specific time. Don't confuse your cars odometer reading all 9's with the end of your engine's life. It'll just roll over.

The Mayan calendar ended in 2012, but that's no reason the world is ending on that date. Look how many natural disasters have happened in the past few centuries...and the world is still here. Sure, it seems like they occur more often now. But that's the media flaunting it so often. It's their job to force the unpleasant into our homes. The world can't end so soon. As long as the sun is shining, we will survive. Besides, I plan to live forever, or die trying. The world has gone thru cold, hot, cold, hot...many times and survived. Think positive and stop believing everything you read or hear. Going with your gut feeling is the best path.

A few years before the year 2000 , people claimed that the world was gong to end i that year at a specific time . When they passed that year , the people who claimed the world was going to end were in deep humiliation . Just because the mayan calender will end in that year doesn't mean that the world will end too . Humans will rule the world for millions of years more .

People even said that the world was going to end in 2003 , but did it happen ? No ....

OMG! I don't hope so! well, hello?! Im just 15 and by 2012 i would be 19 ..God, I have so much more to do in my life....

Well, it couldnt be possible... yeah,,well, the life span of the earth depends on how people take care of it ...like preserve it...

mybe the world would end sometime in 50th century or 40th century,,

but not 4 years after 2008!!

Oh, and by the way! Happy new year!

All those products approximately 2012 is by using fact the Mayan calendar (particularly an overlapping equipment of three calendars) includes an end at that factor. jointly as the Maya have been very better in many diverse components, i think of that in the event that they have been so adept at prediction they could probable have fared better against the spanish.

The scientists of the world have had it with illogical, stupid people.

They have created a machine (LHC) that will start another Big Bang and create a SECOND UNIVERSE. They will then go into that universe leaving all illogical, stupid people in this universe to look for Big Foot and Aliens.

The new universe will be ready for them in 2012 !!!

Here is the live webcam at the LHC. See guys? We're all safe!

Please do not worry about this event because it is not going to happen. I do not see how anybody can possibly ever predict an event that will happen 4 years in the future. Unless somebody could time travel which I doubt very highly. The Bible said that the world will end in 2012. Do you believe this?? I guarantee everyone that we will all live to 2013. I promise. :)

The world will end, but not in 2012. Mayans may be really smart, have developed really advanced calendars, and be mathematical geniuses, but there is no way they can predict something modern science can not. Sorry

No, Obama might be able to stop the war MIGHT

Again , we do not know why they stopped ( they got over ruled i think or just disappeared ) You never know. the World could end tomorrow comets? Nucular bombs

nope, even if u destroy the soil with nuclear weapons, the radiations will affect all forms of life on earth,

so when they reproduce they produce a new organisim called " mutants "

it would be just another period in the Geo-logicall calender

the earth would move on even if we are burned by meteorites

mayans didn't use the 365 calender we use so their end date could be 110 years from now.... and Nostradamus predicted 3272..... don't worry if it happens it happens.... but more than likely not 2012
