my predictions?

now? recognize your face, your expression, hold a meaningless conversation with you with nothing but simple patterned responses, move, but slowly. map its environment. move autonomously.

2020 same thing but only better, computing will be able to be contained on board instead of depending on an outside network. batteries will increase in power and decrease in weight too. telepresence will be the best use still, since the robot still isn't very smart...... there could be humanoid robots in the workplace.

2030 could incorporate quantum computing into its system. (this will boost its intelligence and speed of processing hundreds fold) it will find perfection in its movements. may be acting as visual security and maintenance/cleaning of your house.

conversations should become extremely fluent..... Touring tests will be mastered by the robots AI.

(star wars IV type robots)

2050...... the singularity.... terminator, steven speildbergs AI and star wars III type robots/cyborgs

yes. if you can't beat em, join em = cyborgs

Technocalypse. its about the singularity.

(its only the first part. there should be 9. good luck finding them all)

I would not like to put firm dates on predictions, but it is worth noting that while the pace of scientific discovery has slackened to a snail's pace, the pace of technological innovation continues to follow Moore's law doubling every few years. There is no reason to expect the pace of technology to slacken, and if anything it will increase even faster perhaps soon attaining a superMoore's law growth!

Robotics and biotech are the hot technologies this century, and just as at the beginning of last century noone could have foreseen the amazing growth in electronics precipitated by the invention of the humble vacuum tube, none of us today can predict the outcome of the application of vast computing power to robotics and biotech.

I would predict that robots will soon be smart enough to mimic the thinking of small mammalian brains. This proof of the power of robotics will lead to a surge in miniaturization and a great influx of venture capital that will shortly thereafter lead to a robotic brain initially rivalling the thinking of a human brain, then vastly exceeding it. Triumphs of miniaturization will see these robotic brains installed in android bodies with capabilities that will shame the imagination of the best science fiction writers today.

Personally I will be glad to see proof of the emergence of consciousness, emotion, imagination and "soul" from complexity, so that we can once and for all silence the vitalists that still skulk amongst us, dragging their knuckles as they go about pathetically insisting on paranormal bases for that which they cannot understand.

Cheers!

Regardless of any year...a robot is only limited to the imagination of their designer.
