Future. The past is about 13.8 billion years. Or whatever the current fashionable number happens to be. In 13.8 Billion years from today the sun will be a white dwarf star. It will last for many more billions of years before radiating away all its energy and becoming a black dwarf. Then it will sit around doing pretty much nothing for the better part of eternity, unless of course there is a big rip and the universe is torn apart by unchecked dark energy. But in either case the future is longer than the past even though we won't have humans around to enjoy the ride.

There is no beginning or end to time and as such we are always at the mid point where the past equals the future. Only the present, the mid point on the time-scale is instantaneous. Another approach to the answer is that the universe has no beginning or end, being in a state of oscillation which Hubble missed preoccupied with only one side of the coin, i.e. the expansion phase. If universe has no beginning or end, as the Buddha 2600 years ago disclosed, its dimension, time has no beginning or end. Hence, what is before equals what is after.

Of course, nobody knows yet. According to the most current ideas, the universe is 13.7 billions years old and it will expand forever. Therefore there should be more future than past. But then, something infinite that has a start doesn't make very much sense either, does it?

There is also a possibility that we observe the universe always the same, i.e. the big bang always appears to be 13.7 billions years ago. A kind of super-relativistic view of the universe: it has no absolute frame of reference. It can only be observed from 'here and now' and always will. - just a silly idea of mine.

well i guess that depends. we haven't really pinpointed when (or if) the big bang occurred. so we don't have a precise measurement of how much past has occurred. we are pretty sure that the universe is still expanding, so does that mean it will exponentially expand, or will it bounce back like a rubber band one day? if so, will it bounce back at the same rate it expanded? if it does, and it hasn't reached that extreme point yet, then i would say there is more future than past. but if it is only going to expand to a certain size and then stop, what happens then? does it just empty out and be done? that could happen tomorrow.

I would have thought it depended on whether your an optimist or a pessimist? Perhaps time is infinite and past, present and future are only concepts of man's mind, and past present and future are all one?? Every one seems to experience time differently. for the young a summer holiday lasts forever for the elderly a week passes by in the blink of an eye. I have noticed and experienced fourr different types of time;

Static, where time stands still

Cyclic where history seems to repeat itself

Evolutionary, where everything seems to grow and flourish

Cataclysmic, where everything crumbles and dies and comes to an end.

I am usually in one of these phases if not all four, but usually one is stronger at any particular time.

As I write this I am in cataclysmic mode as I am losing my money at poker!!!! lol

Definitely more past. Tell me something about tomorrow (not something you are going to do of course)...in the whole sense of the word, the future doesn't exist, and when it does, it would be our present and then past. The past existed and still exist in history, but how can you write a book about a literal future.

Please don't call a prophet...lol

in my point of view there is more future in my life because past i did not live within which can only mean it's a fantasy i learn about and bring into my future... sounds kinda of weird i know... but i think generally there might be more past, but literally thinking of my own life; there is more future...

There is no future. You can say tommorrow, next week, or next year is the future, but since it hasn't arrived yet, it doesn't exist. When it does arrive, it is the past.
