Question:
How would you make your own Star Trek?

I am not asking if you think you can do a better reboot than J.J. Abrams, especially since out of all the Star Treks, good ol’ J.J.’s was the only one to meet Wrath of Khan’s standards, even JUST exceeding. And I am not asking a "parallel" Star Trek like Star Trek: Voyager or the fan site Starship Farragut.

No, I’m asking if you could take Star Trek back to the old drawing board and completely redesign it, how would you do it?

In fact, the only things that are sacred are the saucer/engineering/nacelle configuration of the Enterprise, the nacelles are the ship’s faster than light drive, and in the words of Zefram Cochrane, “So you're all astronauts on some sort of... star trek?” Which by the way, star trek directly translates into voyage to the stars.

So what sort of look or feel would you give your Star Trek? And I don’t want to hear any of that “Make it look or feel like Star Trek,” crap because what does that mean? There are 47 people who love Star Trek, so there are 47 ways to see Star Trek, 47 reasons to love Star Trek. And if we have one of the 47 who comes along and claims there is only one way to love Star Trek, then that number drops to 46.

How would you design the Enterprise? Even though I said the saucer/engineering/nacelle configuration is sacred, there is still a wide range of how you can design the Enterprise. This can range from using Gabriel Köerner’s Enterprise, the refitted NX-01 Enterprise with an engineering section, or hell even a 23rd century version of the Sovereign class Enterprise. A pre-existing design or one of your own, whatever you want.

What uniforms will you use? What will the missions of the Enterprise have? What will be the role of Starfleet? What music will you use? Ah, hell what year will it take place in? Because being in 2258, 2266 or even being in the 23rd century at all isn’t sacred. And probably, what will you focus on with your Star Trek? If you have an all human crew, though not exactly like the Trek we all know and love, is still permitted.

What about technology? Will the ship have all of... say deck 7 devoted to hydroponics to grow food and recycle oxygen, or can you walk up to any terminal and can order 14 different varieties of tomato soup, and it still can’t get hot plain tomato soup right?

Even though the nacelles are the ship’s faster than light drive, you noticed I said “faster than light drive,” not “warp drive.” Meaning how would your Enterprise travel faster than light? How would the phasers or the ship’s artillery work? How would the transporters work, if you have transporters? And so forth.

Taking inspirations from other science fiction genres are okay, but make sure it maintains the 3rd sacred factor of exploring space. If you take inspirations from say Earthstar Voyager or Battlestar Galactica where the Enterprise’s mission is to find a new home for humanity, that’s okay. If you want to take inspirations from Starship Troopers or Buck Rogers, that too is okay. Even Star Wars or Babylon 5 where the Enterprise is fighting tyrants that is turning Earth into a prison camp. Anything you would like.

Basically don't worry about Captain Archer, Captain Picard, V'Ger or the Borg. Now, let’s see your Star Trek.

I would make the aliens look like aliens... really ouitrageous, not like the ridiculous humanoids seen here with their faces made up using rubber and plaster, etc..... like giant snails , squid, centipedes, and so on. Also I would give them abilities like levitation, merging, morphing, re-locating, stepping in and out of parallel dimensions, and so on..

Please explain how that is related to Astronomy.
