what would the auto rotation feature on a phone tablet etc. do in space?

as you probably know an ipad or other tablets as such have a auto rotation so basically if you turn the screen from portrait to landscape it will change the screen to the angle your working with. I presume it uses the accelerometer (not too sure on spelling) but does it require the need of gravity to work out which ways down?
and no i'am not planning to goto space in the near future so i cannot really test it!

Yup, iDevices use an accelerometer. An accelerometer will measure acceleration so, in simple terms, it just detects whether or not the device moves. The required force to trigger the accelerometer can be supplied by anything, it doesn't need gravity to work.
Basically, an accelerometer wouldn't do anything in space unless you moved it - pretty much the same as if you left the device on a flat surface anywhere. :)

The devices use an acceletometer, which measures acceleration, and a properly designed accelerometer will work in space.
i am avaiable for testing right now... :-)
More interestingly, some devices claim to go to silent-night mode if placed face-down, etc. - these might struggle, since there "down" is not a locally-relevant direction. It depends whether the device is really detecting down, or just the absence of light.
also, bear in mind that although the ISS is in free fall, gravity is not zero (otherwise it would not orbit).

Not much.
However, you can get an accelerometer to react by accelerating it. One way to do that while on a space station would be to put it on a string and spin it around.

nicely, they do have the surprising to sue. From what i've got seen, they're purely suing the Android OEMs. specially Samsung and HTC. ok, it somewhat is why Apple is sueing them. in case you examine Steve interest's biography (i did no longer the two BTW), he reported he became pissed at Google with their Android OS because of the fact they have been stealing concepts from Apple. He have been given so annoyed he had to enhance Eric Schmidt (in the previous CEO, now Chairman) and advised him "i choose you to give up the copying" (nicely some thing comparable). Now this did no longer relatively give up him and Steve have been given much greater annoyed and is now infamously quoted: "i will spend my final dying breath if i ought to, and that i will spend each penny of Apple's $40 billion interior the monetary company, to authentic this incorrect, i visit wreck Android, because of the fact it relatively is a stolen product. i'm keen to circulate thermonuclear conflict in this." and that's whilst all this suing began. Now you perhaps questioning why Apple did no longer sue Google quite of OEMs like Samsung and HTC. nicely, because of the fact Google is giving out Android for unfastened so hence won't be able to be sued. what's humorous is they're sueing those companies for animations and the layout. I recommend, they sued Samsung because of the fact the Galaxy Tab 10.a million (that have been given banned in my us of a yet now obtainable reason they lost the lawsuit) became a rectangle with a show interior the midsection. in many situations, maximum companies will only tension them right into a royalty fee (like what Microsoft is doing authentic now to all Android OEMs) yet Apple is desperately wanting Android long gone... they're concentrated on people who're greater powerful than them (they might't stand opposition i assume). i think of those courtroom situations ought to give up below Tim prepare dinner's administration. I recommend, they lost to the final public of courtroom situations already. and an excellent variety of those patents are ridiculous (rectangle with a show, heavily?).
