Question:
Will the World end on the 21st of December, 2012?

I know people might think this Is stupid but I'm honestly so scared and I know that we'll be dead and I won't know anything about It If It does happen but I'm petrified. I know about the whole Mayan Calendar thing but In the 2012 film they say that there will be Earth Tremors, this happened In Australia In October (I think October), New York flooded and now there's powercuts In my hometown (might just be the powerstation or whatever It's called). I've also heard that the world might not end on the 21st but that the world will be In the dark for 3-4 days due to the Earth coming off It's belt or an eclipse or an Asteroid or a Comet. If any of you can give evidence as to why the World won't end then please answer this, I'm so worried :/

The real question is: "Why are you asking this, when so many other people have also asked it? Haven't you bothered to look at the answers that have already been given? Do you really think we are going to be the victims of an apocalypse? Why do you believe such nonsense?"

“The Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012! That’s when they predicted the world will end. It’s also when the planet Nibiru will crash into the Earth!”

Here are the facts:

(1) The Mayan calendar does NOT end on December 21, 2012.

(2) The Mayans did NOT predict the end of the world, on that date or any other.

(3) The planet Nibiru will NOT crash into the Earth on that date, because it doesn’t exist!

Don't you think it would be the most incredible coincidence if all these things were to happen on the same day? Doesn't that give you a clue that it's so unlikely that they will?

If anyone thinks I’m wrong, then I’m willing to bet them £10,000, which they can pay to me on December 22 when it’s obvious that these “predictions” are proven to be false.

The Mayan calendar has various time periods. We have days, weeks, months, years, etc. They had periods called b’ak’tuns and piktuns, among others. The periods are counted up, and, like the mileometer in a car, when one number reaches its maximum, it resets to zero and the next number along is increased. In their calendar, the “Long Count” reaches 13.0.0.0.0 on 21 December 2012, but that is NOT the end of their calendar - it resets the number of b’ak’tuns to zero and increases the number of piktuns - to 1.0.0.0.0.0! The calendar then goes to the next piktun on October 13, 4772.

In any case, the Mayans never predicted the end of the world on that date. My “normal” calendar runs out on 31 December, 2012. What will happen then? The end of the world? No! I’ll simply use another calendar for the next period of time - 2013.

"We are speaking out against deceit, lies and twisting of the truth, and turning us into folklore-for-profit. They are not telling the truth about time cycles," says Felipe Gomez, leader of the Maya alliance.

The impact of Nibiru was first announced back in 1995 by Nancy Leider, except she didn’t say it would hit us in December 2012 - the date she gave was May 15, 2003! Of course nothing happened, and she later announced a new date. Nothing happened then either, and then she heard about the 2012 story of the Mayan calendar and said it would happen then. It is obvious that this is all total rubbish and she is making this up as she goes along.

Leider claimed to have this knowledge by means of an implant in her brain, which allows her to receive messages from extra-terrestrials in the Zeta-Reticuli star system, which is a double star about 39 light-years from Earth. So firstly, how was this implant installed, and by whom, and secondly, any messages that she receives are coming from a star that is about 30º south of the southern-most star that can be seen from Nancy’s home in California. So if the star is never above the horizon, how do the messages reach her through solid rock?

We’re also supposed to believe that the astronomers on a planet around that double-star could detect planet Nibiru going around our star 39 light-years away, and yet although we have confirmed over 500 planets orbiting other stars, including one over 21,000 light-years away - almost a quarter of the distance across the galaxy - we haven’t seen Nibiru, which is supposed to be in our own back-yard!

To arrive on December 21, 2012 from a distance of the orbit of Pluto, it would have to be at that distance around December, 2003. That's over 6 months *after* the arrival date of May 2003 that Nancy gave us.

Of course, if it did exist, and was going to hit us hit us around 10 days from now, it would currently be around 400,000 miles away, which is less than twice the distance of the Moon. Assuming it is “only” the same size as the Moon, we would be able to see it with the naked eye. All around the world are millions of amateur astronomers, and there are also huge telescopes - yet no-one has seen this thing because it isn’t there.

Actually, something interesting will happen the day before, on December 20. At 12 minutes past 8pm it will be 20:12 on 20/12 of 2012 :) [That's using UK formatting for the date - DD/MM]

If you want to book a space presentation on real science, or to place a bet with me about these claims, write to jstone@spaceflight-uk.com

So the bottom line is - Don't worry, nothing particular will happen on December 21, apart from the Winter Solstice. Oh, and a group of us are meeting up to have a 2012 Apocalypse Survivors' Dinner :)

Initially the winter solstice, if you do not know occurs when the earths axel tilt is furthest faraway from the solar, so i do not know where you will have bought the notion that it might end the earth? It happens each yr? And the inspiration that the sector is gonna end on twenty first december 2012 in the beginning got here from the mayan long count calender and 2012 is alleged to be the tip-date of a 5,a hundred twenty five-yr-long cycle in the Mayan lengthy count calendar. In ancient prophicies it says the earth will collide with yet another planet or be consumed right into a blackhole. Nevertheless scientists have pushed aside the apocalypse forecast on account that the predicted events are precluded by means of astronomical observations, or are unsubstantiated by the predictions which were generated from these findings.

I've read that the world won't end but we'll go through some rough times. The sun might go close to the center of the Milky Way and there is a BLACK HOLE! So yeah. But we don't know until the day is here. I was scared but like a month ago I stopped because back when the Mayans were around they didn't even have plastic! Plus, Thats only the end of THEIR calendar. So yeah. Yodda yodda yodda. So in cunclusion the world won't end

The thing about the Earth going dark is just a hoax story that is going the rounds right now.

The Mayan calender starts at the date the Mayans thought that their gods created the world. Do you believe that the Mayan gods created the world? If not why pay any attention to their calender, as the dates only make sense relative to that start date (every calender needs a start date)?

Anyway most Mayan scholars now believe that they would have seen it as a time of celebration.

It is unlikely that they thought of it as an end of the world, since, apart from anything else, they refer to dates well in our future (as anniversaries of important events in their calender).

They were good astronomers for their day, before the invention of the telescope - but nothing spectacular, mainly striking because they invented their astronomy as far as we know independently of astronomers in other parts of the world. They weren't able to predict any astronomical events better than we can now. Indeed we far exceed their astronomy in accuracy - not surprising what with telescopes, computers, and thousands of researchers dedicating their entire working lives to astronomy.

Modern astronomers predict nothing at all for this Dec 21, except for the winter solstice which happens every year. There is also a rough alignment of the sun with the center of the galaxy (not very precise) which again happens every year. All the other things you hear have absolutely no basis in astronomy at all.

There are potential astronomical disasters that could lead to an end of civilization at any moment but they are so rare, the chances are high that we need to wait at least a few million years before they happen. Having said that, since they are probabilities, can't absolutely prove that none of them will happen even today. But the chances are that other more probable things will happen first.

No Sweet heart, the world is not ending on 21 st December 2012. Scientists have proven this already. You can read about the proofs and the reasons why the world won't end now here -

This is in laymen language and very easy to understand. Read this and then be fearless as our earth is going to be hale and hearty for a longer time. You can breathe now. Throw your worries.

Yes the world will end on the 21st December, the NASA web

site are just saying that the world won't end to make you not worry, the Mayan Calender predicted in 3000 AD that the world will end this year, there has been no news on the internet about it, they also don't want to worry you. I am sorry to tell you the real truth.

no because it has already past 2012 it is 2015 right now and the world has not ended. it is predicted that the world will end in millions of years people. dont believe anyone. if anything about the world ending does appear somewhere, just forget about it, wait until it is that day, go to sleep that night, wake up... and nothing would have happened.

Please don't be worried! No the earth is not going to end, these things that have happened happen all the time but people are just pointing it out more now trying to scare people! Nothing has actually happened that is out of the ordinary. However many people will do silly things to try and make it seem like the world is going to end, be wary of these silly people <3

No it won't!!! They thought the world would end in 2000, 2003 and 2011 but people were certain that it would end in 2012 but we would be all laughing on the 22nd

No it won't and if there was no end of the world hysteria (which I'm still not sure exists, just trolls pretending to be scared) what would you have made of the events on the news? Run of the mill natural disasters right? That's all they are and you'll see it that way too on December 22nd.

The people on this section work for NASA which was taken over by the Illuminati so they will tell you it isn't going to happen but believe me I have read many things that make me believe it is gonna happen. I wrote some interesting facts in my question at the bottom of the page if you are curious about how it's all gonna go down.

End of the world questions are now being classified as just questions from Trolls.

Anybody with any brains knows it is all a hoax.

it has already ended!!!!, it came early you are living in an alternate reality now that only exists in someones mind that is being artificially kept alive in stasis in space.

if you don't believe that then why believe what you asked because it is just as ridiculous as my answer!!!

even if the world were about to end, so what, it would happen that fast that you wouldn't even have time to think about it never mind dwell on it and worry.

NASA have said that Planet X does exist ( this is one of the theories that another planet will collide with ours) but it is around 5. Billion light years away that means it would take 3.9 quintillion years to reach us so don't worry
