What does a solar max do and can it destroy the world? And should i be worried about 2012? do you think any thing that is said to happen really going to happen? and did any scientist study this at all or is it just some guy saying this.

We have solar max about every 11 years. We're currently at solar minimum. Maximum shouldn't be until 2013 or 2014. And predictions for this solar max are that it should either be big or tiny. Either way, you're going to have to try harder to get an end of the world scenario. I suggest using one of Dr. Evil's backup plans.
We have planetary alignments all the time. I'm not aware of a particularly good one for 2012.

There is a solar max every 11 years (roughly). The next one should be around 2011-2012 (the peak is not that regular, so the best we can do is "closest season").
This means that the last solar max was around 2000. It is my understanding that the Earth was not destroyed in 2000.
During the solar max of 1989, a geomagnetic storm (triggered by activity on the Sun) led to a major power outage in the province of Quebec, in Canada (March 13, 1989). Their electrical distribution system is now much better protected. In fact, it survived the Northeast Blackout of 2003 that affected 50 million people in USA and Canada (they did not go out of power).
Now that more and more of our communications depend on satellites (they are less protected than us) and now that our electrical distribution system have not been kept up properly, it is possible that a sun-triggered geomagnetic storm causes another major power outage somewhere or that it disrupts communications for a few hours. These events do occur close to solar max. That is about the most damage a solar max can cause.

I can't believe that there is a 2012 question where I'm going to answer yes, but this is it.
The solar max cannot destroy the world, the worst it can do is to fry our satellites and electrical grids. Any astronauts in orbit at the time will face some some risk is they are are on the wrong side of the planet when a coronal mass ejection hits. Chances are the only thing you'll notice is radios and broadcast television acting funny, and if you're very lucky you might even see the aurora from latitudes that do not normally see them

please, if you get your information from either The History Channel or Sunday School and feel you must participate and answer someone's question... stifle it.
the Solar Cycle is 22 years, but 11 is close enough as its a sine wave and who cares if its above or below the axis? Yes 2011 is the next maximum.
Hope its a doozy, but there is little evidence that it will be.
A big one might knock out a satellite or two, but nothing like the US did when it tested atom bombs in space! We knocked out 1/3 of all the working satellites. Woooo! Imagine if that happened again? The insurance companies would be in line for a Federal Bail-Out!
Remember the Solar Max in 2000? No? That's sad... it was pretty big, too.

Yes, there will be a maximum of solar activity in 2011 or 2012. They occur every eleven years or so, and have as long as the Sun has been studied scientifically, about three centuries. When there is a lot of solar activity, it can interfere with telecommunications. So far the upcoming solar cycle seems low in activity and/or delayed in onset. The people who manage telecommunications satellites need to be a bit concerned, but most people are unaffected by solar activity.

there's a image voltaic max each and every 11 years (greater or less). the subsequent one must be around 2011-2012 (the top isn't that known, so the terrific we can do is "closest season"). this implies that the final image voltaic max replaced into around 2000. it extremely is my know-how that the Earth replaced into no longer destroyed in 2000. during the image voltaic max of 1989, a geomagnetic hurricane (extra on by way of activity on the solar) extra approximately a important skill outage interior the province of Quebec, in Canada (March 13, 1989). Their electric distribution equipment is now lots greater advantageous secure. in actuality, it survived the Northeast Blackout of 2003 that affected 50 million people in u . s . a . and Canada (they did no longer pass out of skill). Now that further and further of our communications rely on satellites (they're much less secure than us) and now that our electric distribution equipment have not been stored up appropriate, it extremely is a threat that a solar-extra on geomagnetic hurricane reasons yet another important skill outage someplace or that it disrupts communications for some hours. those activities do happen on the edge of image voltaic max. it quite is with regard to the main harm a image voltaic max could reason.

The idea that the Earth will in 2012 comes from the 5,000 year old Mayan Calendar. This calendar does not at all predict the end of the World. What is going to happen is that this calendar will merely repeat itself and its essence is condensed below.
This is the cycle of a new humanity: of peace, harmony, balance, knowledge and the kingdom of wisdom, the return to the Original Law, to the basic, to the harmony with Mother Earth, the encounter with ourselves. This cycle begins on December 21 of 2012.

A solar max refers the suns electromagnetic field switching which causes large solar flares.Happens every ten years or so. Every once and a while the earth is in the path of the flares that get projected into space.
So...
The last time this happened the northern lights came down all the way to italy or so.. That was like ... i dunno 80 years ago i think
It can be a relatively harmless event for the most part.. except that we now live in a modern era of satelites and such
Instrumentation could be fried from these charged particles hitting them.. which would be very very bad for us... and expensive to fix
that's what i know of it...
I do know that actually being in the path of one of these flares is rare.
Because the scale of the sun to earth is this.
If the sun was a ping pong ball .. earth is a mote of dust 2.5 metres away.. Most of the solar flares ejected every ten years miss the earth

SOLAR MAXIMUMS AND MINIMUMS DO NOT ONLY HAPPEN IN 11 YEAR CYCLES, THEY ALSO HAPPEN ON MUCH LARGER SCALES. How can people be so stupid to believe that in a planet that has been around for billions of years, that its solar flares only run in 11 year cycles, thats absurd. Even if science has not been able to prove that there are larger cycles, there is, it would be like saying because we cant prove there is other life in the universe then we must be the only ones...there are just some things that science can never prove.

the sunspot cycle has been known for several centuries. it has existed as long as the sun has. how can it possibly hurt us?
the last maximum was in 2000. the next one is due, nominally, in 2011, though this cycle is proving to be an unusually long one.
the peak of cycle 19 in 1959 was the highest that has ever been directly observed. it didn't hurt anything, though it made for some wild hf radio propagation.

Don't know if this is the same as what I am thinking but I'll give you some information which be make you feel better or not.
Back hundreds or thousands of years ago, there were a group or tribe called the Mayans who predicted that in 2008 (their calendar) or 2012 (our calender) the planets would allign for a moment causing everything to stop with magnetism and what not. It could happen for a split second and it might NEVER happen.
Anyways, who would believe the world will end just from a small group of people.

yeh theres an astronomical alignment around then which freaked a lot of astrologers out across the world. I'm not all up to date with the terminlogies used, but the earths axis hits a critical point too around late 2012. It could mean bad news, but it seems the mainstream isn't too concerned, so take heart from that =)

There is a lot of theories about the world ending in 2012.
No one really knows whats going to happen.
I don't believe it but thats just me.
And many people like wayyy back in the day like B.C
had all of these theories like what will exactly happen.
And some scientists do and some don't.
