okay ive been asked to give a brief description of a message tat i would like to send into space, the only problem is i dunno what to wtite!! :S has anyone got any ideas?

You should send 2 messages.



1. Firstly a mathematical message in order to catch there attention, detailing Prime Numbers:



2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, 31, 37, 41, 43, 47, 53, 59, 61, 67, 71, 73, 79, 83, 89, 97, Why?, There is no naturally occurring prime number generator. An Alien race would know for certain the message is from a life form.



2. Second message, much more details such as how many planets our system has, our location being 3rd from the sun, population of the earth, a brief description of our evolutionary path, greetings in all languages, songs from the Whales and some music, being The Earths Greatest Hits!

okay.... if i were to send a 'greeting' card to aliens, first thing i would include is the position of the earth. the second, i would include human figures, (both male and female), third, i would include some pictures of the earth's surface, pictures of flora and fauna, and the cities. fourth, i would include sound clips, from various aspects of life, like a baby crying, people talking, birds chirping, etc. last but not the least, i would provide an instruction module, which can play instructions on how to operate the greeting card.

but the thing is..... i cant get this greeting card in any of the galleries...

not a bad question though....

Well, two thoughts....



First - why advertise we have a planet full of life & resources...? That could be dangerous - even if our message is received by kind, friendly beings - they could inadvertently bring diseases we'd have no cures for. And, if they ARE hostile - just by arriving here, they would've already shown technology more advanced than ours.



Second - if we knew it was safe to say, "hi"....

Well, probably what they did with the Arecibo dish in Puerto Rico in the 60's - a group of prime numbers, and a binary code that, when stacked properly, shows a picture of a man waving, our planet location in our solar system, and a strand of DNA.
