Question:
Big bang and the Big crunch help me?

ok so we were learning about the mass that would reslut in the big crunch
which got me thinking this
is there a posibility that the big crunch has already happened and then from the "one point" where everything would compress back into everything began again?
could this have happened more than once?
i mean we could be in like the 4th phase of the universe
please explain your answers

It's like the Phoenix! Bang - entropy causes everything to expand until the expansion forces are less than the gravitational forces (- entropy). Everything reverses direction and comes back together as a mega - black hole. At that point either everything = 0 or we have another big bang that erases all evidence of anything occurred previously. This would be the good definition for eternity. Of course each cycle takes trillions of years! It makes perfect sense!

It's an interesting theory that would seemingly explain a lot, like where our universe came from and what caused the big bang. It makes sense - the big bang explodes outwards, then eventually gravity slows the expansion, reverses it, big crunch happens, and then it all repeats. Plus it's comforting to know that the universe could continue on forever, periodically refreshed.



10-15 years ago it was a great theory. But it's got some problems now.



Scientist discovered that the rate of expansion is not slowing down (as you would expect from the gravitational force) - it's speeding up! What causes this? Scientists have postulated a 'vacuum energy' that pushes space outward more and more as matter is increasingly spread out, but no one really knows for sure. But whatever, it now seems unlikely that there will be a big crunch. It's more likely that it will keep expanding for trillions of years, the stars will eventually burn out, and the universe will be left for eternity very cold and very empty.

your theory has been put forward many times. It very well could be possbile that this is another phase of the universe. But it wasn't been proven, because we can't prove that the universe will end via big crunch. The alternate theory is the Cold Death theory. In that, the universe will keep on expnading forever, until it becomes too cold to support life. Ofcourse, if that happens, then there isn't any possibility for another big bang. Since we don't have any proof of big crunch, or cold death, we can't really say whether this is indeed another phase of the universe. We just might be unique

that theory is extremely popular, I personally agree



1. the universe shrinks to the big crunch

2. Using newtons 3rd law "every action has an equal and opposite reaction" another universe gets released and this process repeats



However the state of the universe is saying that our expansion momentum is increasing. This theory takes forever to explain, so just watch The Universe on the history channel or on ondemand

It doesn't look like there will be a big crunch, and I think I'm right in saying that observations of the very early universe suggest that it didn't result from a collapsing previous universe, though I'm not sure of the details.



So neat as that theory would be, it doesn't look like it matches what we observe.

i believe the answer as to the fate of the universe lies in its density. if the universe is on average denser than the equilibrium number (0) which is needed to maintain balance than the big crunch will occur. if the universe's density is smaller than this equilibrium number than we will continue to expand into a big chill. this equilibrium number is known as an omega number. where my understanding stops is how it is possible that our universe is continuing to expand faster and faster. what would this mean?? can somebody help me to put this in perspective?
